Rating 1+ to 5+ is how many spores the lab saw per field under the microscope. Growth indicators are structures that may point to mold growing on that spot, rather than settled spores. Example only.

Questions
Good to know
How long do results take?
Once the lab has your swabs, results take up to 3 business days. We email you your results as soon as the lab finishes, and you can view or download them on the tracking page. Holidays or a sample form missing details can add time.
How do I check my order?
Go to the tracking page and enter the email you used at checkout. It shows where your order is, from shipping to your results. To open your results there, add the order number from your order email.
Are there any other fees?
No. The price covers the kit, lab analysis of every swab and shipping both ways. There’s no separate lab fee and no shipping charge. Sales tax is included. Faster lab results are optional, at an extra cost per swab.
Is there a deadline to send my swabs back?
Please mail your swabs back within 90 days of delivery. After that, the prepaid return label and lab analysis included with your kit are no longer guaranteed. For the best results, mail your swabs within a few days of swabbing.
Is return shipping included?
Yes. Your order email includes a prepaid USPS return label. When your swabs are ready, put them back in the envelope your kit came in, seal it with packing tape, tape the new label over the old one and drop it off at USPS.
What do the lab results show?
For each swab, the lab names the molds it saw under the microscope, identified by genus, like Cladosporium or Penicillium/Aspergillus. It rates how much of each it saw on a 1+ to 5+ scale (spores per field), and notes whether there are indicators of growth, like hyphae, which may point to mold growing on that spot rather than spores that settled there.
Will it tell me if it’s Stachybotrys?
Yes. If Stachybotrys is on a swab, your results list it by name, with its rating.
How many swabs do I need?
One swab per spot. Count the spots you want answers on, like a ceiling stain and a spot behind the toilet, and pick that many.
What comes in the kit?
Your swabs, step-by-step sampling instructions, and a sample form to send in with them. You also get our guide, The Practical Guide to Mold & Moisture, as a PDF with your order confirmation email.
What’s in the guide?
The Practical Guide to Mold & Moisture is our guide for homeowners: how mold grows, how to find the moisture behind it, what to check in 12 rooms (74 spots, with a floor plan for every room), what a mold test can and can’t tell you, and when to call a professional. It comes with every kit as a PDF, at no extra charge. It’s educational information, not a substitute for a professional inspection.
When does my kit ship?
Your kit will be shipped within 1–2 business days of your order. Delivery time depends on USPS.
Is this a mold inspection?
No. It's a lab test of the spots you swab. It doesn't look for hidden moisture or check the rest of the house.
Can I cancel or get a refund?
Yes, until your kit ships. On the tracking page, enter your order email and order number and tap Request cancellation, and we’ll refund the full amount. Kits ship within 1–2 business days, so the sooner the better. Once your kit has shipped, all sales are final. See our shipping & sales policy for details.
